"Mikhail Shemyakin. A completely different artist" - a retrospective exhibition in the capital’s Museum of Russian Impressionism Automatic translate
MOSCOW. The Museum of Russian Impressionism on October 13 invited visitors to get acquainted with the work of Mikhail Shemyakin, a Russian impressionist artist who created his original works in the first half of the twentieth century. “A completely different artist” - with this name the creators of the exhibition emphasized not only the unique talent of the master, appreciated by Konstantin Korovin and Valentin Serov, from whom Mikhail Shemyakin studied the profession of an artist.
This is really a different artist, who worked much earlier than our contemporary Mikhail Shemyakin. After graduating from the Moscow School of Painting, Mikhail Fedorovich continued to improve his skills, studying at the Anton Azhbe studio in Munich.
The exhibition included one of the last drawings made during the artist’s studies in the studio of Azhbe. This work impressed Fyodor Chaliapin, who saw her on the wall of the apartment of Ivan Grzhimali, the father-in-law of the artist. In total, the exhibition collected more than fifty works from various Russian museums.
The exhibition included magnificent female portraits, many of which were painted throughout the life of the artist. Among them are the images of the wife and sister of Mikhail Shemyakin, images of sitters, which can be seen in the paintings of other artists. Some models are present in several drawings by Mikhail Shemyakin.
Family portraits are collected in a separate section of the exhibition. One of the works - a portrait of the artist’s grandfather, Alexei Abrikosov, the famous Russian manufacturer, the audience will see for the first time. This portrait is in the funds of the Tretyakov Gallery, and previously did not participate in exhibitions.
Presented at the exhibition are flower still lifes with hyacinths, flowers beloved by Mikhail Shemyakin.
The exhibition of the Russian impressionist is open until January 17.
