Russian fairy tales through the eyes of foreign artists at the exhibition "Once Upon a Time" in the art center "Borey" Automatic translate
ST. PETERSBURG. Every child knows fairy tales that tell about Baba Yaga, about the adventures of Tiny-Hawroshka, about the Snow Maiden, who turned into a living girl. And how many different heroes of folk tales born at different times acquainted the kids with the experience gained by previous generations. In these fabulous stories, children received the first ideas about good and evil, learned to sympathize with characters in difficult situations.
Visitors to the Borey art center, having got acquainted with the exposition that opened the other day of the exhibition “Once upon a Time” (something like the translation of its English name “Once Upon a Time” sounds like), will be able to understand how the perception of the world of Russian heroes by artists differs in whose childhood other tales sounded.
The idea of the presented exposition was born by Natalia Howard from Great Britain and Isabella Mazzanti, representative of Italy. They became the curators of the international exhibition dedicated to Russian folk tales. Her exposition, consisting of sixty graphic works, was created by a group of European artists, united by a love of Russian fairy tales.
Specially for them, the playwright Niki Orfanu translated four Russian fairy tales into English - “The Snow Maiden”, “The Geese-Swans”, “The Little Havroshechka”, “Ivashko and Baba Yaga”. Artists from various European countries worked on illustrations for these tales. The result of their work was a unique exhibition, allowing its visitors to see stories familiar from childhood through the eyes of artists who gave each fairy tale a new style and unique atmosphere.
Artist Isabella Mazzanti made a gift to young visitors to the exhibition. October 26, she held a master class, where she taught the creation of paper dolls.
The exhibition is open on November 5th.
