VOGDA. “Clouds above Russia” - under this name, an exhibition prepared in honor of the 60th birthday of Evgeny Molev, a famous Vologda artist, was presented in the art gallery of the Vologda Oblast. The anniversary exhibition got its name from the painting of the same name painted by Evgeny Molev in 2012. This painting was first shown to the Vologda public in February, at an exhibition dedicated to Nikolai Rubtsov. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the poet.
“Clouds over Russia” was the work of Eugene Molev, where the artist most fully showed his creative achievements. In this picture, the painter combined the image of the Motherland, constantly present in his landscape works, with a special motive of Rubtsov’s poetry, where the image of clouds floating over the native expanses often appears.
For the anniversary exhibition of paintings, Evgeny Molev selected 180 works. He chose the best of paintings created over the past two decades. About four hundred of them were written during this time. Among the works presented at the exposition, about a third part is already familiar to Vologda admirers of the artist’s work. From these paintings it is clearly visible what themes Evgeny Molev prefers in his work.
Traveling in the Russian North, the artist constantly turns to the past, still preserved in the protected corners of the northern regions. Evgeny Molev devotes his travels to field studies, from which magnificent paintings are then born. In the artist’s works, one can see village landscapes and monasteries painted from nature in Solovki and Kirilo-Belozersk. Next to them are the views of the temples of Vologda and other northern cities.
The ancient architecture of the northern region, captured by Eugene Molev, can be seen until May 22.
