MOSCOW. The Simferopol Art Museum presented in the halls of the Watercolor Academy an exhibition of the works of Mikhail Kazas, a talented Karaite artist who created his work in the early 20th century. Born in 1889 in Sevastopol, the artist died tragically in 1918, however, in his short life he managed to leave a noticeable mark on the art of the time, called the Silver Age.
For the first time, an exhibition of works by Mikhail Kazas, stored in the collection of the Simferopol Art Museum, is shown outside the Crimea. Half a century has passed since the time when in 1965 the artist’s sister, Alexandra Kazas, donated to the museum miraculously preserved works of her brother during the war. During this time, not a single album was dedicated to the artist’s work. During his lifetime, Mikhail Kazas managed to show his creativity at only one exhibition, held in 1910.
For the exhibition, which opened on April 8 at the Academy of Watercolors, the first edition was published, which published works created by Mikhail Kazas. Visitors to the exhibition will see more than 200 works by the artist, most of which are represented by graphics. She was joined by 6 paintings.
Almost all large-format painting, written by the artist, forever young, died during the war in Sevastopol, during a fire. Only graphic works, a few sketches, sketches and sketches remained. The museum has 480 works by the artist, saved by his sister from the fire. The memoirs written about brother Aleksandra Kazas are also stored there.
Most of the works presented at the capital’s exhibition were made when the artist was a little over 20 years old. They are attributed to the years 1909-1914. More precise dates cannot be set.
The exhibition of Mikhail Kazas in Moscow is open until June 5.
