Landscapes of the outstanding master of the Russian landscape Nikolai Dubovsky at an exhibition in Yaroslavl Automatic translate
YAROSLAVL. Until mid-July, an exhibition of paintings by an artist almost unfamiliar to the general public, painter Nikolai Dubovsky, who at the beginning of the last century was one of the outstanding Russian masters of landscape, will work in the art museum. The exposition, located in the exhibition space of the Governor’s House, consists of fourteen paintings.
Museums located in Kostroma, Vologda, Ivanovo and the Yaroslavl region provided them specifically for the exhibition. By creating this exposition, employees of the Yaroslavl Museum recalled the artist whose contemporaries considered his name as significant for Russian art as the names of Polenov, Shishkin, Levitan.
Although the works created by Nikolai Dubovsky are stored in the collections of many important museums, including the Tretyakov Gallery, the last time a personal exhibition of the painter was presented to the audience in the Russian Museum in 1938.
Now a unique exhibition of landscapes painted by Nikolai Nikanorovich Dubovsky is available to lovers of pictorial art in Yaroslavl. Museum employee Lyudmila Bitkolova, curator of the exhibition, says that Dubovsky’s works often coexisted with the works of Isaac Levitan, a famous landscape painter.
Far from always, critics and contemporaries of artists preferred Levitan’s canvases, considering the theme of Dubovsky’s work is much wider. Dubovsky painted paintings where nature was in a natural state, but also city landscapes. The exposition included three canvases depicting St. Petersburg, and the center of the exhibition was the version of the painting "Quiet" stored in the Russian Museum. Visitors to the museum in Yaroslavl will see the painting "Quiet. A cloud is approaching ”, made by the artist on the order of Pavel Tretyakov, in 1912.
