The works of the artist and sculptor Evgeny Chubarov at an exhibition in the NCCA Automatic translate
MOSCOW. As part of the Festival held at the NCCA, annually presenting collections of works of contemporary art owned by both state museums and private collections, a new exhibition was opened on August 15th.
This time, the public presented the works created by the artist and sculptor Yevgeny Chubarov. Unfortunately, the artist’s work became more famous abroad than in Russia. However, Muscovites who visited the Museon art park must have remembered the unusual monument created by Evgeny Chubarov as a memory to the victims of Stalinist repressions.
The composition was based on 237 sculptural heads created from stones collected by the artist in the field. Chubarov worked on them in his workshop, located in the city of Mytishchi, where he lived from 1968 until 2012, the last of his life. Before traveling to Germany, where the artist lived in 1988-1996, Chubarov worked on sculptures and graphic series.
Among the graphic works, in addition to the usual still lifes, there were a large number of drawings depicting predators and flying birds. Each of the artist’s drawings is full of expression, clearly visible even in the images of the “nude”, where such tension is usually not visible.
Although since 1975, Chubarov was a member of the Union of Artists, his work officially did not have much success. The real success of the artist’s work was in the 90s, when he began to create abstract compositions. This was largely facilitated by the support of gallery owner Gary Tatintsyan, thanks to whom the works of Evgeny Chubarov were presented at world-famous exhibition venues.
The exhibition, open until August 31, consists of works donated by the NCCA Lyudmila Chubarova. the widow of the artist, and Gary Tatintsian.
