On May 17, as part of the cultural event “Night at the Museum”, starting at 5 p.m., unique documentary films by the director and ideologist of the project, Phil Grabsky, will be shown on the screens of cinemas in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk and Voronezh about the exhibitions of prominent artists: Jan Vermeer, Edward Munch and Edward Manet.
Fans of European painting will go on an exciting journey into the creative biographies of famous artists, learn a lot about their works and worldview. Each film is dedicated to a separate exhibition, and in them you can see behind-the-scenes filming, usually inaccessible to the general public - about how the preparations were made at the National Gallery (London), the Royal Academy of Arts (London), the Norwegian National Museum and the Munch Museum (both located in Oslo). The host of films, artist, writer and art historian, Tim Marlow, will not only discuss the work of painters with invited guests and experts, but also offer viewers an interesting excursion into history.
In the film “Vermeer and Music,” we will talk about an exhibition at the National Gallery in London, the key idea of which was the relationship between Vermeer’s works and music of the corresponding period. The viewer learns what role instruments and other objects accompanying playing music played in the work of 17th-century Dutch painters and how they could most effectively hint at the sophistication and high education of their sitters. In Moscow, the film is shown for the first time.
In the documentary film Mans: Life on Canvas, Tim Marlow will talk about the exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, which was the first ever exhibition dedicated exclusively to portraits by Eduard Manet. The artist painted members of his family and friends, as well as outstanding people of his time, from writers and fellow artists to politicians, fixing on the canvas not just people, but a whole section of Parisian society.
When watching the movie "Munch-150", the viewer will be able to immerse himself in the life and work of the most significant and mysterious figure of modern art - Edward Munch. The exposition, which is described in the picture, was dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the artist and is the largest exhibition of his works in history - 220 paintings were presented on it.
