MOSCOW. The Tretyakov Gallery invites you to get acquainted with the work of an outstanding graphic artist Illarion Golitsyn. The exhibition “Be Yourself” covers all stages of the master’s work, presenting his works made in various graphic and painting techniques for several decades.

The exhibition exposition included not only drawings, linocuts, watercolors. In the exhibition hall you can see paintings and even sculptures provided for the exhibition from the artist’s family collection, as well as from the Tretyakov Gallery. The work of Illarion Vladimirovich was never divided into periods. It is impossible to say about him that in some years he was a graphic artist, and the subsequent he devoted painting. Almost simultaneously in his work, various kinds of techniques coexisted on an equal footing.

Although the works at the exhibition are selected in such a way that it is possible to trace the evolution of the artist’s searches. In the mid-fifties, Golitsyna was attracted by linocut, in the technique of which the artist made his changes, making his works less contrasting and reducing the amount of black.

The late sixties was the time of the artist’s passion for woodcut. Golitsyn used soft linden wood to base his work. In the seventies, the artist worked a lot with a pencil and was engaged in sculptural work. Later, watercolors and paintings predominated in his works, but engravings, as before, occupied an important place in the work of the master.

Most of the creative heritage of Illarion Vladimirovich is directly related to the history of his family. Historical associations convey a connection of time and reverence for a kind of history.

The exhibition will be open from September 4th to November 17th. The press show will take place on September 3rd.
