ST. PETERSBURG. In the hall of the Marble Palace of the Russian Museum on June 27 an exhibition of works by Leonid Konstantinovich Borisov opened, dedicated to the seventieth anniversary of the artist. Leonid Borisov passed away at the beginning of January 2013, not having lived half a year before his anniversary.
The exhibition includes works by the artist stored in the funds of the Russian Museum, as well as those provided for the exhibition by close relatives of Leonid Borisov. Although the time range for the creation of works in the exhibition hall relates to the years when the creative activity of the author was the highest (1960-2010), but most of them relate to paintings little known to the general public.
Leonid Borisov in the art world of modern St. Petersburg was considered a recognized master. His works constantly participated in the most prestigious exhibitions, enjoyed the attention of art collectors. Borisov was one of the first representatives of St. Petersburg artists who was honored with the opportunity to present his retrospective exhibition in the Russian Museum in 1995, in the department of the latest trends.
Leonid Borisov’s creative heritage contains not only paintings, but also collages and sculptures. In his paintings, the artist sometimes included three-dimensional forms. In some paintings, the artist replaced the image with a word. Its name is “That’s all,” the exhibition received from one of these works.
Since the late eighties, the artist became interested in photography, however, photographs taken by Leonid Borisov, by the methods of their creation and themes, were close to his paintings. For the pictures, compositions created by him were used, combining real objects and painted ones.
