All periods of creativity of the artist Maryatta Tapiola at an exhibition in St. Petersburg Automatic translate
ST. PETERSBURG. Since June 6, in the Rafael Hall of the Museum of the Academy of Arts, with the assistance of the Institute of Finland, an exhibition of works by the famous artist Maryatta Tapiola has been opened. To date, the artist’s works are widely represented in the collections of the most prestigious museums of the country and private galleries in Finland.
Her paintings were highly appreciated by the most severe critics, participation in exhibitions was accompanied by the presentation of prestigious awards, her work style became the object of scientific research. When the works of Maryatta Tapiola began to appear in exhibitions in the 70s, art historians attributed them to conceptual expressionism.
It was of no interest to the artist herself what style framework critics would attribute her work to. Her first known paintings depicted human cruelty, and death became the highest category of beauty and harmony. In the works written by Tapiola in the new millennium, the motives of her work changed dramatically, now the source of her inspiration was the natural strength and harmony of the animal world.
A little later, the artist’s paintings were filled with images inspired by Greek mythology. A new period of her work brought to life an art space that radiates energy and light. On canvases with images of ancient heroes, mythical creatures that lived on the shores of the Mediterranean, one can see admiration for life.
The exposition of the opening exhibition includes works from different periods of the creative life of Maryatta Tapiola. The curator of the exhibition, a specialist in contemporary art and design, Pavel Ulyanov, selected works. In his opinion, the artist’s works, presented to the connoisseurs of painting, are the most significant for the presentation of her work. You can see them until June 30th.
