Josef Boyce’s Call for an Alternative Exhibition at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art Automatic translate
On September 12, the Moscow cultural space again met with the works of one of the founders of postmodernism - Joseph Beuys. Despite the fact that the most fruitful period for the artist was the 1950s and 80s, his works did not lose their relevance and continue to “play their melody” on the strings of the audience.
And this is natural, because the fears voiced by him about the wrong direction of the world’s development have become a bitter reality these days. The artist was a zealous opponent of materialism and tirelessly reminded his works about the spiritual aspect of life. A freedom-lover, who could not stand the borders in anything, he supported the European Green Party and sought to remind people that our planet is alive and needs to be treated with care.
For example, one of his installations presented in the museum is called “The End of the 20th Century” and is dedicated to a large-scale project carried out in 1982, when a heap of basalt blocks turned into an oak grove with 7,000 trees in front of the eyes of the whole world. The end of one era is the beginning of the next. When the period of wars and dictatorships ended, the era of creators came. But if the builders of the new century are not guided by the highest spiritual standards, then their activity will be even more destructive than a real battle in battle. After all, it will destroy not the objects of the material world, but the souls of the people living in it.
Everyone can plunge into the work of Joseph Boyce until December 14.
