"The World in Miniature" - an exhibition of carved stones from the Pushkin Museum named after A.S. Pushkin Automatic translate
On August 20, the Pushkin Museum first presented 150 miniature works of art - carved semiprecious stones. The chronological framework of the exhibition covers more than six millennia of human history, so visitors can get acquainted with the most skillful, unusual and beautiful examples of oriental, antique and European art of jewelry craftsmanship.
Most of the stone cutting techniques are not known to modern jewelers and engravers, but meanwhile the collection includes generic rings giving the right to inheritance, elegant female jewelry, attributes of royal power, and weapons.
From the point of view of artistic mastery, the most interesting are stones with carvings (the so-called "gems"), as well as with an image deepened into stone (intalia). Considering them, you can imagine the features of the life of ancient tribes and states. Feel what they lived and what our ancient ancestors believed in. When you see a ring with a stone whose pattern is not spoiled by a single crack or flaw, you understand the true meaning of the word "quality"! And this is for products that have survived the collapse of entire civilizations and have maintained an almost perfect condition!
For comparison with natural materials, the exhibition will be complemented by a collection of semiprecious, untreated stones from the Geological Museum. Academician Vernadsky. Also, visitors can get acquainted with the rare second-hand collections of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. They will allow you to study how the traditions of engraving are preserved and look at the casts made from ancient gems by European masters.
You can plunge into the atmosphere of the exhibition until October 7, 2012.
