Antique Mirror Automatic translate
One of the leading roles in creating a vintage interior style belongs to objects with a patina effect. This is a kind of coating, which over time forms on the surface of copper, brass and bronze things. Buying expensive antiques is not available to everyone, so the appearance of such aging is often created artificially. Moreover, for this you do not need to be a professional designer, because any item suitable for these purposes is quite possible to patch with your own hands. Let’s try to make an “antique” thing that can decorate a vintage interior from an ordinary old mirror in a wooden frame.
We buy quality baguette mirror . Such a mirror can be bought in the company Stylish Accessories. The mirror is carefully removed from the frame. An amalgam is removed along its perimeter to a width of 8-10 centimeters from the edge. To do this, you can use sandpaper or a special solution. Usually the dry coating of a very old mirror can be easily removed with sandpaper. On a new mirror for a few minutes you will need to apply a special liquid, which then rinse with running water.
Residues from the coating are removed using a household glass cleaner. Prepare material for decoration. This can be photographs, lace, openwork fabrics, dried plants, clippings from old newspapers or other compositions that are in harmony in style. The size of the decor elements should match the width of the cleaned mirror surface. To maintain the unity of the style of photography and clipping, it is recommended to use black and white. Some of them can be carefully torn. All elements, without fixing, are placed on the edges of the mirror.
Using sandpaper, varnish is removed from the surface of the frame to the natural color of the tree. If there is a picture or thread on the frame, it is important not to damage them. Carefully remove wood and varnish dust. For a more reliable fixation of the putty, the wooden surface is primed. Let it dry for 40-50 minutes and putty, carefully covering the defects and damage to the frame. If the frame has a thin thread, it is better to putty with your hands, without using any tools. Then the frame is dried again for at least 40 minutes.
Application of paint is the most interesting and crucial moment. The paint is diluted with White Spirit at the rate of 20-30 g for every 50 ml of paint. This significantly reduces drying time. It is convenient to breed paint in a palette or a small plate.
If black and white tones were used in the decor material, then black is well suited for painting the frame. Using a wide brush, paint the entire surface of the frame with paint and leave it to dry for 1.5-2 hours. Then, with a thin brush, silver paint based on "White Spirit" is applied to the threads and bulges. This will give the frame of the mirror a more voluminous, embossed and shabby appearance. Color accents can be set in another way. To do this, after the black paint has dried, a silver layer is uniformly applied to the entire surface of the frame. Then the convex places are wiped without effort with a dry rag. At the same time, volume elements are highlighted in black, which gives the frame a look of an old bas-relief. After drying the painted surface, the frame is coated with glossy or matte varnish.
Attaching prepared decorative elements to the mirror. To do this, use an ordinary transparent or matte paint Scotch . The second option will be more reliable, however, painted tape should be glued so that it is not noticeable after assembling the mirror.
We fix the mirror in the frame with the help of clamps-clamps. An “old” mirror with an original decor is ready to emphasize the style of your interior.
