Kurt Wenner: The Story of a Virtuoso Automatic translate
Kurt Wenner is a masterly American artist who is known for his street and monumental and chalk painting using a projection called anamorphosis. Its volumetric (three-dimensional) chalk pictures on asphalt and other street sections are described in many newspapers and magazines, and also shown in a series of television shows.
According to one “legend”, Kurt became attached to this work as a child, when he once watched as one street artist painted with chalk crayons an angel on asphalt. The boy chose the moment when the artist went to have a bite to eat, and little Kurt himself drew his head to the creation. Since then, Kurt became obsessed with the desire to draw. Which, in fact, does, decorating asphalt, sidewalks, sometimes also the walls of different houses, fences and garages with unusual volumetric drawings.
Kurt Wenner created his first commissioned work at sixteen, and at seventeen he had already decided to devote his life to painting. Kurt attended Rhode Island School of Design and the House of Art College of Design. He worked as an artist and illustrator at NASA, where he drew conceptual sketches of future space projects and extraterrestrial landscapes. In 1982, Wenner left NASA, sold absolutely all of his belongings and went to Italy to study art. Living in Rome, Wenner studied classical and modern sculpture in museums throughout the country. In 1991, he was honored to portray the visit of John Paul II to the city of Mantova. This visit was broadcast live throughout Italy.
Wenner also created monumental painting, oil paintings, sculptures and was engaged in architecture for private and state orders. His one of the largest works in the United States (over 1.7 square meters), located on Wilshire Boulevard in Westwood, California, was shown in the movie Quiesters, and his other big famous painting, The Magic Flute, hangs in the Fresno City Hall (state California).

In 1987, a documentary was shot about the work of Kurt Wenner ("Masterpieces of Chalk"), which won first place at the New York Film Festival in the nomination of fine art. A forty-minute film about his work and life in Italy, shot by Swiss television in 1991, was shown in many countries of Europe.
Wenner also participated in the Absolut campaign, which involved many very famous artists (sculptors, artists, as well as glass design experts). Kurt’s task was to develop print ads. For the first time, an advertisement called “Absolut Wenner” appeared in September 1996, and Absolut Vodka herself recorded the process of creating works by Wenner for television advertising of the same product.
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (Washington, DC) held a personal presentation of Wenner’s work in 1991. Kurt also received honorary Italian honors Golden Bacchus and Golden Giotto.
Today, Kurt Wenner is one of the most famous and talented masters of three-dimensional volumetric painting. Another interesting fact is that in order to keep his paintings that live in the open air as long as possible, Kurt Wenner invented his personal recipe, according to which he makes special crayons for drawing.
