Tours in St. Petersburg Automatic translate
Undoubtedly, the main attraction of St. Petersburg is the city itself, its architecture and unique atmosphere. In the central, oldest part of the city, you can find buildings built in the Baroque style, empire, classicism, modern, etc. In the middle of the last century, constructivism and the Stalinist Renaissance joined them. On them you can study architecture. In no other city in Russia can one meet such diverse buildings, and in the world there are few cities that can boast the same.
St. Petersburg is striking in its combination of beauty and harmony. Almost every house in the city center is unique, each has its own story. In St. Petersburg, temples belonging to different religions, royal palaces and ordinary residential buildings, commercial and administrative buildings peacefully coexist.
In the city you can find an incredible number of museums for every taste: from the famous Hermitage and the Russian Museum to the oceanarium and the railway.
Those who do not have much time are usually recommended the most traditional route: to go along Nevsky Prospect, explore Palace Square and the Hermitage, visit the Russian Museum and St. Isaac’s Cathedral, walk along the canal embankments, and reach Vasilievsky Island and the Peter and Paul Fortress.
Active tourists who want to combine sightseeing with physical activity can travel around the city on a bicycle, which can be rented right away. This is very convenient in St. Petersburg - the traffic situation is calmer than in Moscow, and the streets are wider.
Roofing is very popular in St. Petersburg - walking along the rooftops, from where an interesting and unexpected view of the city and its streets opens. There are even professional guides offering their services to tourists who love new unusual routes.
People who are not constrained in funds can book a helicopter tour for 15-20 minutes over the historic city center. Helicopters will start from the Peter and Paul Fortress on weekends and holidays.
Water excursions are among the most popular among tourists. The route runs along the Neva and numerous channels. The tour lasts an average of 1-1, 5 hours. Those who wish to ride a boat, need to be prepared for a small pitching and a strong cool wind.
Classic bus tours of St. Petersburg and its suburbs are also popular among tourists, especially those with limited mobility. They can be bought at one of the city’s many excursion bureaus near Gostiny Dvor.
Individual tours in St. Petersburg
Private excursions are the best way to get to know the city and its attractions, especially when it comes to holidays in St. Petersburg. There are a lot of monuments and interesting places in the Northern capital, and the flow of tourists, each of which has its own individual preferences and interests, almost never runs out. Therefore, if you want in the most comfortable conditions to see the sights of the city that interest you, the order of individual excursions will be the best option.
Individual tours of St. Petersburg are carried out taking into account all the wishes of the tourist. Unlike group trips, you do not have to wait for the lagging participants, and at the same time you are free to inspect a particular attraction for as long as it takes.
Thanks to a competent guide who will accompany you on an individual excursion, you can find out more detailed information about different places and the most interesting monuments of St. Petersburg for the customer. In the case of excursions with children, their age characteristics will be taken into account, that is, the stories and comments of the guide will be interesting and understandable to both adults and children.
A car or a minibus is provided for moving around the city. Most individual excursions provide for the vehicle to be delivered to a place indicated by the customer. Also, participants in an individual excursion are free to choose the place to end their walk, which is very convenient especially for city guests who are poorly oriented or are not at all familiar with the map of St. Petersburg. Also available is the ability to book tours in different languages.
Prices for individual excursions depend on many factors. Among them: a list of visited establishments, the duration of the tour, the transport used, the language in which the guide tells the story, the time of year and several others. The cost of excursions of this type traditionally includes full transport services, services of a specially trained guide, tickets for the places intended for visiting (museums, galleries, exhibitions).
To a tourist or a group of tourists who booked an individual tour, not a single stranger will join. You are free to choose the theme, route and time of the excursion yourself, which allows you to get the most pleasant cognitive vacation in St. Petersburg.
Excursions to the State Hermitage Museum
The Hermitage is perhaps the largest and most famous museum institution in St. Petersburg. Moreover, it is deservedly considered one of the best museums in the world and is one of the most visited establishments of this type.
Today Hermitage exposition totals about three million exhibits. Most of them are paintings and sculptures from different eras, cultures and countries, as well as works of applied art. In order to get a better idea of the grandeur and scale of this museum complex, it is worth saying that the Hermitage is located in 6 large buildings, which are also of great cultural value, and to inspect all collections you will have to overcome a conditional distance of 20 km.
The collection of exhibits began in 1764, when 225 paintings by a German merchant owed to the Russian Empire were placed in the Small Hermitage. After that, Catherine the Great gave a decree to buy expensive works of art at auctions around the world in order to replenish their collection. Not only paintings were collected, but also various values of Ancient Greece and Rome, prints and drawings, ancient coins, books and other objects.
Today, excursions to the State Hermitage Museum of St. Petersburg make it possible to get acquainted with extremely extensive expositions devoted to the period of Antiquity, Western European and Eastern culture, the primitive period of general world history, as well as to the department demonstrating the multifaceted development of Russian culture. In addition, the museum has a special department “Golden Pantry” and a numismatic department.
For convenience, on the ground floor of the museum is a cozy cafe-bar, as well as an Internet cafe. In the cafe you will find special terminals that provide the necessary information about the Hermitage and its collections. Similar terminals are located in the halls. In addition, you can use electronic maps, guides and collections, which will allow you to navigate in a huge museum complex.
The State Hermitage Museum impresses with its external architecture and chic interiors, as well as priceless collections encompassing the culture of the whole world, from the appearance of man to the modern stage. Excursions to this wonderful museum will be of interest to literally everyone. They are perfect for schoolchildren and students and bring a sea of aesthetic pleasure to everyone who is interested in fine art. Visit the Hermitage and get a whole ocean of pleasant impressions from the contemplation of a truly powerful museum and its treasures.
Non-standard excursions in St. Petersburg
Many travelers believe that excursions in St. Petersburg are limited to visiting famous palaces, sculptural monuments, museums, galleries and other cultural institutions. However, this statement is partly erroneous due to the fact that in the Northern capital you can participate in a large number of original and very unusual excursions.
For example, all lovers of Russian rock are guaranteed to enjoy excursions to memorable places associated with Petersburg rock music and its representatives. Those who are interested in cinema will have interesting walks around the city’s locations, where such famous films as “Brother”, “Irony of Fate or Enjoy Your Bath”, “Train Station for Two”, “Dog Heart” and others were shot. Also, a visit to the Lenfilm film studio is often included in the route of such a thematic tour.
“Night Petersburg” is an excursion known to many tourists, however, in the dark, it is easy to organize walks, which will be limited not only to sightseeing of the city’s main attractions. You can, for example, walk around the places of the city, about which there are legends and mystical stories, where ghosts meet and strange phenomena occur.
Also, all guests of the city who are interested in modern street culture should go on an excursion dedicated to street art. And with the so-called "underground city life" can be found during excursions in the St. Petersburg metro.
Recently, tours in the yards of St. Petersburg have gained great popularity. In the city, if you wish, you can find many interesting courtyards, each of which has its own atmosphere: some look very mysterious, others look fabulous, and others are able to catch visitors with a sense of baseless melancholy and darkness. Each of these courtyards has its own little story, often filled with extremely unusual events. Colorful yards-wells are especially interesting.
Excursions on the roofs are also gaining popularity. In addition to participating in such an excursion, you can enjoy beautiful views of the city, some Petersburg roofs also boast very entertaining stories. Walking on the roofs is also particularly romantic, so you should definitely pay attention to such excursions to all lovers who come to the Northern capital.
Unusual excursions are organized by some travel agencies of St. Petersburg, as well as local residents, who often know more about the city than specially trained guides.
Night walks in St. Petersburg
Going on vacation to St. Petersburg in order to see the city in all its glory, it is imperative to pay attention to night walks and excursions. In addition to the fact that at this time of day vanity evaporates and relative silence sets in, at night the Northern capital is dressed in a new outfit, and all the palaces, parks, embankments that you could already see during the day appear in a different guise.
First of all, for a pleasant experience of amazing views of the night St. Petersburg, you should go to the Palace Square. The remarkable illumination of the Alexander Column contributes to the creation of beautiful night pictures and allows you to capture local beauty in the pictures of the camera. The Alexander Garden is also filled with a special atmosphere at this time of day, which when visiting can be confused with the fairy world.
Also, at night Petersburg the excursion would not be complete without a visit to St. Isaac’s Cathedral. At first you will be impressed by the sight of the most magnificent religious temple. But then, when 211 steps are “behind”, a truly stunning panorama of the night city will open before you. In the light of lamps, searchlights and neon signs, St. Petersburg looks, perhaps, even more beautiful than in natural daylight.
The next point on the route will be the legendary Bronze Horseman. At night, like other city attractions, the monument gets a special appearance, but in addition, an indescribable mystical spirit is floating in the air. Walking along the promenade, you will find yourself on one of the most popular bridges in St. Petersburg - the Palace Bridge, which also offers beautiful views of the city.
At night in the Northern capital, a local “miracle” takes place - the St. Petersburg bridges are being bred, the spectacle is truly impressive. You can watch it both from land (from the embankment), and from the water surface, ordering a boat trip. It is walks along rivers and canals that are the final stage in an exciting night trip.
On board the ship, which, incidentally, it is better to buy tickets in advance, and during the day there are wonderful views of the city, and at night their beauty only increases. Sailing along the Neva at night to calm, pacifying music is an indescribable pleasure.
Of course, if you wish, you can also go on a night bus excursion, book themed thematic trips around St. Petersburg or supplement your pastime with a visit to a cozy restaurant on the waterfront. However, no matter what the night program is, you can be sure that you will receive a huge amount of emotions from night walks.
The most comfortable cafes in St. Petersburg
The city on the Neva, the northern capital, the second Rome - all this is one place, and this place is called St. Petersburg. Who has not been here, he did not live… By the way, about life: as you know, it is impossible without food and water, so it will not be superfluous to talk about the most comfortable and atmospheric cafes in St. Petersburg.
The first place deservedly takes the art cafe "Books and Coffee" at ul. Gagarinskaya, 20. I have been there personally, so I won’t think of anything, moreover, it’s not required - it’s really very good there! We got into this cafe by accident: we visited the museum of the blockade of Leningrad, which is literally 100 meters away from the “Books and Coffee”, and after the tour we were overcome by a terrible hunger. We decided not to move, but to “google” the nearby cafes and restaurants. In first place in the ranking was the aforementioned art cafe. Without thinking twice, we moved there. I must say right away that this institution is mostly youth and even, I would say, hipster. It’s small in area, which definitely adds extra points to comfort: three tables by the window and also about three in the middle of the hall. There is even a small semblance of a play area for visitors with children! The name justifies the interior of the cafe: cozy shelves and books with books are everywhere, and a large blackboard with a hand-written menu hangs on the central wall of the room. For each guest there is coffee to taste. There are few attendants, which, in my opinion, is only for the better - more will and freedom of action, you can safely take advantage of the proposed range of books. The employees are all young, friendly and, as they say, on the same wavelength with visitors. By the way, about the guests of the establishment - at that very table in the playing area there was a foreign man with his son, and it was a pleasure to listen to their conversation, and sometimes to watch them. As you can see, people look here completely mottled, which is why the atmosphere in the cafe is unique and comfortable. The menu is quite varied, as well as business lunches, student lunches and combo breakfasts, the prices of which are pleasing not only the eye, but also the wallet, and the food is very tasty. Portions, I note, are generous, which is becoming a rarity in institutions of this kind. We liked it so much that we decided to return here the next day. Unfortunately, we left for lunch, but we preferred to spend our farewell breakfast in St. Petersburg in the Book and Coffee art cafe, which we did not regret.
In second place the most comfortable cafe in St. Petersburg is the loft project "Floors". Of course, this place is not for everybody - not everyone agrees to hold a business lunch or a quiet family dinner on the roof of a residential building. However, a visit here is a must! In view of the elementary laws of the city’s climate, a cafe is not always open for visitors, but if you, like us at one time, accidentally end up in St. Petersburg on a fine summer day, you won’t regret your visit here. Hot ground coffee, tender pancakes with jam or a hearty omelet with ham and cheese in the company with a morning panorama of the city on the Neva - what could be better?! And thrills and memories for life as a gift.
Completes my three finalists of the most comfortable cafes in St. Petersburg "Shop merchants Eliseev." Yes, this is not quite a cafe, but an institution, more commonly known as a gastronomic store, but you can also eat deliciously and densely here. This is a place with a history that dates back to 1902. Probably everyone who has been to the Northern capital of our country heard about a cafe-restaurant with a huge pineapple in the center of the hall, under the spreading branches (artificial, of course) of which there are several tables. An institution for a sophisticated audience with thick wallets, but the average Russian can afford to eat here (once, half a year or a year). It’s better to come here to have a cup of good coffee or fragrant tea with insanely delicious masterpieces of confectioners from the Eliseev’s Shop of Merchants. The atmosphere, truly royal and intelligent, may not seem cozy for everyone, but it clearly has its own charm!
