On September 20, 2023, a photo exhibition opened at the National Museum of Art and Photography on the art platform “Gallery on Mosfilm” and a presentation of the book “Andrey Dementyev - Fatherland in Poems” took place. To the 95th anniversary of the poet."
The colorful collectible photo album and on the walls of the exhibition hall presented photographs from the family archive, from the RIA Novosti storage facility, poems and excerpts from the autobiographical prose of Andrei Dementyev. Multimedia screens showed video recordings of the poet’s author’s evenings, as well as book spreads and photo panel layouts prepared for the open-air exhibition that took place in July-August of this year at the Peace Foundation Gallery on Tverskoy Boulevard in Moscow.
The atmosphere of the evening was supported by audio recordings of songs based on poems by Andrei Dementyev, performed by his contemporaries. Admirers of the poet’s talent, people close to his family, and many people involved in the preparation and organization of this project gathered in the hall.
The opening ceremony was attended by the artistic director of the project, the poet’s wife and muse Anna Pugach-Dementyeva, Central Television announcer People’s Artist of the RSFSR Anna Shatilova, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation Nikas Safronov, First Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Russian Peace Foundation Elena Sutormina, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Youth politics Yulia Saranova, founder of the ProLab Center for the Development of Art and Photography Nikolai Kanavin. The host of the evening was the charming singer, composer and TV presenter Mark Tishman. The vocal quartet "Republic" performed several songs based on the poet’s poems.
The path and work of Andrei Dementyev represent an inspiring example of service to Russian culture and recognition from millions of viewers and listeners. More than 80 collections of his poems have been published, and the total circulation of the poet’s books has exceeded one million copies.
As editor-in-chief of Yunost, Dementyev discovered new talents in the 1980s, returned forgotten names to literature, and published inconvenient or “unformatted” authors. In the late 1990s, he headed the RTR bureau in the Middle East, then hosted the television program “People Want to Know” and the radio program “Turns of Time” on Radio Russia, organized the competition of young poets “Green Leaf”, created the unique “House of Poetry” in Tver.
Today, the projects started by the poet are continued by his wife, Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation Anna Pugach-Dementieva.
The project is financed using a grant provided by the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives with the support of the Russian Peace Foundation and the ProLab Center for the Development of Art and Photography.
Exhibition opening hours: weekdays from 12 to 19 hours.
The exhibition will run until October 2, 2023.
