Several figures are positioned on the wall itself. One individual, dressed in formal attire – a dark suit with patterned trousers – is seated and appears to be observing the others. Adjacent to him sits a nude figure, adorned with floral accents in their hair. Further along the wall, another mermaid-like being stretches languidly, while a fourth reclines, seemingly relaxed. A pair of figures are depicted playing music; one holds a guitar, the other an umbrella, both appearing to be enjoying the moment.
Below the wall, partially submerged in the pool, is a fifth figure whose body is angled towards the viewer. Scattered around the base of the wall are various objects: a watermelon slice, a lime, and what appears to be a collection of grapes.
The background features a seascape with a distant coastline and a tall-masted sailing ship on the horizon. The sky exhibits a gradient of blues, suggesting either dawn or dusk.
A sense of playful surrealism permeates the work. The juxtaposition of human and aquatic forms introduces an element of fantasy and invites contemplation about boundaries – between land and sea, humanity and nature. The formal attire of one figure contrasts sharply with the nudity of others, hinting at social conventions and their potential subversion. The presence of the sailing ship in the distance could symbolize exploration or a yearning for escape. The objects scattered around the pool suggest an interrupted moment of revelry, leaving the viewer to ponder the narrative preceding and following this scene. Overall, the painting evokes a feeling of whimsical escapism and invites reflection on themes of identity, social norms, and the allure of the unknown.
