The upper portion displays a broad expanse of reddish-brown earth, seemingly undulating in subtle shifts of color and texture. Below this lies a large, pale area, possibly representing cultivated land or a quarry face, punctuated by a dense cluster of dark green foliage – a solitary tree or thicket that disrupts the otherwise rigid geometry. To the right, a field is depicted with parallel rows, suggesting agricultural activity; these lines are sharply defined and create a sense of order and control over the natural environment.
The lower section mirrors the upper, presenting another expanse of reddish-brown earth, but here it appears more textured and irregular. A band of dark grey separates this from the field above, acting as a visual barrier. The very bottom edge is characterized by a rough, almost chaotic arrangement of small, angular shapes – perhaps representing rocks or debris – that contrast with the ordered fields above.
The overall effect is one of fragmentation and abstraction. There’s an unsettling quality to the scene; the lack of depth and the sharp divisions create a sense of confinement rather than openness. The landscape isnt presented as a harmonious whole, but as a collection of discrete elements, each existing independently. This suggests themes of human intervention in nature, perhaps exploring the tension between cultivation and wilderness, or reflecting on the impact of industrialization on rural landscapes. The deliberate flattening of perspective and the reduction of forms to basic shapes imply an interest in structure and form over naturalistic representation.
The signature appears near the lower left corner.
