To the left stands another figure, also bearing a halo. This individual holds an object – possibly a vessel or a scroll – and gazes towards the central figure. Their attire is similarly detailed, though with a slightly different color palette of greens and browns. A cityscape appears faintly visible behind this figure, hinting at a connection to earthly affairs or perhaps representing a specific location.
On the right, a third figure stands partially obscured, their features less distinct than those of the others. They too possess a halo, but their posture is more reserved, suggesting a position of deference or humility within the hierarchical arrangement. Their robes are predominantly dark, contrasting with the brighter colors of the other two figures.
A decorative border runs along the bottom edge of the composition. It consists of stylized floral and geometric motifs executed in black ink, providing a visual frame for the scene above. The simplicity of this border contrasts with the complexity of the figures’ garments.
The overall impression is one of reverence and solemnity. The limited color palette and somewhat flattened perspective contribute to a sense of austerity characteristic of religious iconography. The arrangement of the figures suggests a narrative or devotional purpose, possibly depicting an encounter between holy individuals or a presentation before a divine power. The sketch-like quality – evident in the slightly rough rendering and unfinished appearance – implies that this may be a preparatory study for a larger work, offering insight into the artist’s process of developing the final composition.
