Below this upper register, a second tier unfolds. Here we see a group of individuals arranged in a more horizontal fashion. A man seated at a table is the focal point of this lower section; he appears engaged in writing or reading, his posture suggesting intellectual activity and concentration. He is positioned centrally, drawing the viewers attention to his role within the scene. To either side of him stand other figures, some dressed in monastic habits, others in more elaborate garments indicative of a higher social standing.
The color palette is largely restrained, with deep reds, browns, and blacks dominating the composition. The gold background serves as a visual counterpoint, highlighting the figures and lending them an air of solemnity and importance. Light falls unevenly across the scene, creating areas of dramatic shadow that enhance the emotional impact of the work.
Subtleties in gesture and expression hint at complex relationships between the individuals depicted. The man writing seems to be observing or documenting the events unfolding above him, suggesting a role as witness or chronicler. The figures flanking him appear to represent different aspects of faith, scholarship, and authority. There is an overall sense of reverence and contemplation, hinting at themes of sacrifice, knowledge, and spiritual guidance. The architectural elements framing each figure contribute to a feeling of enclosure and formality, reinforcing the solemnity of the occasion being portrayed.
