The painting can be related to the cycle about peasants, which is one of the best creations of the artist. The viewer is presented with a symbolic portrait of a man. Malevich in his work sought to develop the boundaries of traditional art. Cycle "Peasants," was to be presented as a graphic representation of everyday life, all the difficulties and hardships of the low caste. The more the artist recognized the tradition of the people, the more he sought to draw public attention to the needs of the peasants, but not through pity, but their strength of spirit. The portrait brought together the best qualities of the man.

The portrait brought together the best qualities of the man. It is the colors that help one understand the depth of the image:
Red originally represents people’s hard work, internal struggles and conflicts with higher ranks. The reddish-brown shade shows a connection with the earth. Immediately there is an association with work in the fields, folk rites of fertility.
The background color chosen is green, which brings the human soul into harmony with nature. The closeness of the peasant to it, the natural beauty, both physical and spiritual.
Geometrically arranged nose with three colors, shows the versatility of nature, which is subjected as yellow color of morbidity, blue - purity and unusual, white in the middle - harmony.
The presence of the black shade, shows the doubts that exist in every personality. It also expresses short life and high mortality, arising from the lack of medication for the disease. The encounter with severe obstacles in the path of self-realization and self-development. Black and white are evenly spaced in the picture, creating an Asian yin-yang symbolism.
The broad forehead and close eye placement depicts a man not engaged in the high sciences, but working hard for the good of family and society. The high neck, stretching upward, shows an eagerness to learn new things and a willingness to learn about the world.
