The composition presents a central crucifixion scene framed within an arched architectural setting. At its apex, a band of medallions depicting busts is arranged against a pale green background, creating a sense of enclosure and formality. The primary focus rests on the figure of Christ suspended from the cross, positioned centrally and dominating the visual field. His body displays a degree of anatomical realism unusual for the period, though rendered with a certain stylized quality in the treatment of musculature and drapery.
Below the cross, a large gathering of figures is arranged, seemingly observing the event. These individuals are identifiable as saints and mourners, differentiated by their attire and gestures. A bishop, distinguished by his elaborate vestments, stands prominently near the foot of the cross, while other figures display expressions ranging from sorrow to quiet contemplation.
