Standing near him is another figure, seemingly female, bathed in a luminous glow. She is draped in flowing white garments, her hands clasped at her chest in a gesture that could be interpreted as either supplication or protection. A wreath adorns her head, and a single star shines above her, further enhancing the impression of otherworldly presence. The artist has employed a delicate rendering for this figure, creating an effect of transparency and lightness that sharply differentiates her from the fallen man.
The surrounding vegetation – a field of stylized flowers – adds another layer to the scenes symbolic complexity. These blooms appear almost spectral in their depiction, echoing the ethereal quality of the standing figure. The overall palette is restrained, dominated by grays, whites, and muted earth tones, which contributes to a melancholic atmosphere.
The subtexts within this work seem to explore themes of mortality, solace, and perhaps even redemption. The fallen man could represent humanity burdened by earthly concerns, while the luminous woman embodies hope or spiritual comfort offered in times of distress. It is possible that the image intends to depict a dreamlike state – a vision experienced during suffering – as suggested by the title Delire (meaning delirium). The juxtaposition of these elements creates a powerful visual narrative about the human condition and the search for meaning beyond physical hardship.
