The painting View in Sorrento depicts a bustling coastal scene under a vast, partly cloudy sky. In the foreground, a grounded sailing vessel is laden with goods and surrounded by figures engaged in loading and unloading activities. Numerous men and women in traditional attire are actively working, some carrying sacks on their shoulders, others tending to the boat and its cargo.
The water is a calm, shimmering expanse dotted with several boats. A prominent sailing ship is navigating the bay in the middle ground, adding a sense of movement and scale to the scene. To the right, dramatic, imposing cliffs rise from the sea, forming a dark, rocky cove. Several figures are visible along the edge of the water and on the shore within the cove, some tending to a small boat, others wading in the shallows. Buildings are perched precariously on the cliff tops in the distance, suggesting a settlement beyond the immediate coastal area.
