Description of Peter Brueghel’s painting Hunters in the Snow
Like many artists of his time, the famous painter Peter Bruegel created a series of paintings called "The Seasons." The best work of this cycle, and at the same time one of the artist’s best works, is The Hunters in the Snow.
The painting depicts an Alpine village on a winter day. The main characters - hunters - together with their faithful dogs are returning home. The men are walking tiredly through the deep snow. Dark, slender trunks of trees rise up before them. From the high cliff, we see the vast expanse of snow-covered valley, villages, fields and rivers, with the majestic snow-covered mountains as a backdrop. At the bottom of the precipice stretches a picturesque village with smart little houses, and behind it - on the frozen ponds of skating rinks frolics many people.
We see different people going about their daily business. The figures in the picture are quite a lot and you have to take the time to see each of them. After the hunters, the first thing that catches our eye is the group of peasants who have built a fire. Also on the canvas you can see a man walking across the bridge carrying a large bundle of brushwood. Another hunter is lurking under a cliff, aiming at birds. A horse pulling a cart can be seen on the road in the distance. On the left side of the road behind the church, people are trying to put out a burning house. In the upper right corner we see birds soaring in the air. It seems as if we are looking at this view from a bird’s-eye view. And this flight takes place under a bottomless sky of greenish-blue hues.
Bruegel managed to convey the movement of all life on his canvas in an amazing way. All the people, despite the fact that we can not see their faces, it seems quite real. You get the impression that the world created by the artist’s brush, there really is. And we not only see but seem to hear it: the crunch of snow under people’s feet, barking dogs, happy cries of skaters, the crackle of a fire.
The artist created an unprecedented sense of spaciousness on the canvas. For this, Bruegel plays with the contrast of near and far plans. And a kind of a staple between the two plans are the central figures of the painting - the hunters. All this contributes to the disclosure of the main motif of the painting - the unity of man with nature.

In the background, a city can be seen –
A labyrinth of alleys,
Covered in thick snow.
Probably old… hardly young.
Square ice rinks gleam –
Joy must reside there.
Dark figures are unsettling –
Or do they speak of something else?
The hunters return home.
The trees have dark branches.
A crowd of dogs, happy with their fate.
It is very clean.
A fire burns, and theres an inn,
And a sign announces
That it contains a cozy world,
And the food provides strength.
And a slender bush, as if torn
Abruptly from the edge
Of the painting,
Adds to this winter paradise
In a complex and wondrous way.

PEASANT WEDDINGS AND FESTIVALS
They carry pies on trays

Everyone is drunk and the jokes are strong.

The red color, the green – they are good.
Fat, well-fed peasants.
If you want to celebrate – with all your heart,
Even forgetting that you are Christians.
5.
CHILDRENS GAMES
Children play as everywhere else,
Splashing in the river freely.
And they involuntarily smile
At the mothers tricks in the water.
The girls twirl around and around,
And the wind fills their skirts.
And, imitating a wheel
Herself,
A boy presents
A figure for everyones amusement.
And these walk on stilts.
That is how growing up happens –
It is the most important of all topics.
On the crossbar – hey-hey -
They want to show their skill.
Fun. You will grow up – work
Will fill the perspectives of days.
Oh, juicy world, material world!
If we live under the heavens,
Then every moment will be bright –
As long as we dont spoil it ourselves.

BASED ON ENGRAVINGS
Big fish eat small fish –
That is the law, it applies to everyone.
Spain, with unprecedented enthusiasm,
Will swallow the Netherlands.
The sin is clear.
Here chests are fighting, and their piggy banks
Resist as much as they can.
And in this struggle, both sides are passionate.
Greed poisons life.
And a fisherman has already cut open the belly
Of a giant creature on the shore.
There is plenty of prey – but his heart is deaf,
And no prayer sounds in his brain.
And in the belly – crabs, mussels, other
Fish that have eaten others too.
But here are shiny gold coins,
And you want to touch them so much.
And here – everything is only symbols and signs,
And we cannot understand them at all.
And hidden in the dark sky are the Zodiacs –
They are silent, as if life were insignificant.

You see a house built sternly,
Beams, ceiling... rather – flooring.
There are cracks in every (terrible!) roof!
And the smile immediately disappears from your lips.
Quieter, bright colors! Quieter!
The world is unbearably rough!
Proverbs hide a secret meaning,
Is it easy to understand it? Answer...
Here is winter. A child rolls down a hill.
And his caftan is copper in color.
A magical island is hidden from the brain.
Everyone knows their own thing. So.
