Description of Isaac Levitan’s painting The Forested Shore
Isaac Ilyich Levitan painted the famous painting The Forested Shore in 1892 in the genre of landscape. The painting was painted in oil on canvas, in the style of realism. The subject reflects the beauty of native nature, love and respect for it.
Looking at the endless water surface, you want to think about life, being and everything that surrounds us, to plunge into an atmosphere of kindness and tranquility. There is no evil and falsehood that often surrounds us.
A wide river, looping, goes over the horizon. Twilight falls. The river is quiet and calm, even the forest is frozen in anticipation, nature is "not moving" and, at the same time, it is alive, and everything seems to go its way. Two extremes are used in the story. One is a precipitous shore and the other is a quiet, peaceful beach. The opposites completely complement each other and create a unified composition. Dried stumps give the subject a special flavor, which everyone interprets in his own way.
Levitan is a master of his craft, he has thought through the plot to detail, showing nature multifaceted. Dark water, with inimitable greenish tint, glistens in the rays of the setting sun, the sky is covered by clouds, the impenetrable forest is motionless, the coast is sliding more and more. The colors are used in a warm color scheme, which gives the subject warmth, kindness and serenity.
The yellow colors convey the feeling that the shore is really crumbling. This is what the talent and skill of a great artist means. From the Russian land comes a warmth that warms not only the body, but also the soul. The artist makes the viewer think about the meaning of life, about love for their native land, about eternity, through the landscape.
The picture is in the Tver Picture Gallery and is a part of the cycle of paintings and landscapes of the great master of his craft. Repeatedly the painting was exhibited in the famous Tretyakov Gallery, giving a large number of visitors the opportunity to see the purity and beauty of native nature.

1892 февраль – май На XX Передвижной выставке экспонировались Осень, Октябрь, Лето, У омута. 12 февраля В Московском обществе любителей художеств открылась постоянная выставка картин, на которой экспонировались работы Левитана. 2 марта П. М. Третьяков приобрел на XX Передвижной выставке в Петербурге картину У омута. апрель Левитан гостит у А. П. Чехова в Мелихове. Ссора Левитана с А. П. Чеховым из-за рассказа Попрыгунья; письмо А. П. Чехова с объяснением возникшего недоразумения. 12 мая Левитан уезжает на лето вместе с С. П. Кувшинниковой в имение Сушнева Городок, близ станции Болдино, Нижегородской железной дороги, на реке Пекше. Там пишет этюды к картине Владимирка. сентябрь В связи с выселением евреев из Москвы Л. вынужден был покинуть Москву. Уезжает в Болдино. декабрь В. А. Серов пишет в мастерской Левитана его портрет. декабрь Левитан возвращается в Москву. 9 декабря Левитан направляет в Петербург, в Академию художеств, для русского отдела Всемирной выставки в Чикаго картину Вид монастыря накануне праздника [Вечерний звон]. 13 декабря Левитан участвует в заседании комиссии Московского общества любителей художеств по присуждению премий за картины, присланные на конкурс. 25 декабря – январь 1893 На XII периодической выставке Московского Общества любителей художеств экспонируются пейзажи Левитана Берег реки, Сумерки и Летний день. Один из них – этюд Сумерки – Левитан жертвует в пользу голодающих крестьян.
из сказанного я думаю что это и вправду река из Нижнего Новгорода.. Хотя в с. Горицы Липецкой области протекает река Воронеж. Там точно такой же поворот реки, такая же возвышенность. и открывается точно такой же вид.

Картина Левитана “Лесистый берег”, как и другие шедевры этого автора, трогает своей безграничной простотой. Кажется, ничего в этом полотне сверхъестественного нет, но оно способно забраться в самую душу.
На картине показана глубокая и широкая река, которая, петляя между высокими песчаными берегами, убегает вдаль, за край горизонта. Вода в ней темная, с легким зеленоватым оттенком. Берега у реки песчаные и довольно высокие. Они прорисованы желтыми красками так четко, что создается ощущение осыпающегося берега.
С одной стороны реки раскинулся уютный песчаный пляж, который идет широкой полосой и местами глубоко врезается в реку. Второй берег реки, крутой и обрывистый, весь покрыт деревьями, которые похожи на густой зеленый шатер. На переднем плане видны коряги, которые остались после того, как кто-то срубил вековые деревья. На заднем плане виднеются старые сосны и стройные березы, которые стеной окружили реку – и охраняют ее не одно столетие.
Река, затерявшаяся среди вековых деревьев, всегда выглядит трогательно и прекрасно. В такие места хочется возвращаться снова и снова – и Левитан нам подарил эту удивительную возможность, за что ему благодарны многие люди.

at the end of the school year.
Lesson progress:
1. Introduction by the teacher.
Isaac Ilyich Levitans life was both sad and happy. It was sad because he had a short lifespan, and in his less than forty years, he experienced the hardships of poverty and homelessness. It was happy because, as L. N. Tolstoy said, the basis of human happiness is the ability to be with nature, to see it, to talk to it. And Levitan, like few others, was given the opportunity to deeply understand the happiness of talking to nature, being close to it.
Levitans love for nature is truly deep and all-encompassing. He could spend weeks in the forest, enjoying for a long time the special life that opens up to the attentive gaze on the surface of a river pool, in a forest glade or on the bank of a river.
Today in class, we will try to feel and understand the artists love for nature through acquaintance with his work Wooded Shore (see textbook insert). And the result of our work will be an essay based on this painting.
2. Introduction to the painting. Discussion.

3. Gathering materials for the essay. Group work.
Group 1: Select expressive means (epithets, metaphors, comparisons, personifications) to describe the river and the shore.

Group 4: From the expressive means given below, choose those that correspond to Levitans painting.
Thoughtful pines; humid haze in the air, calm surface of the river; reflected as in a mirror; winding like a snake; defenseless trees; lemon-yellow colors; lush greenery; play of shadows on trunks and branches of trees; the river runs away around the bend; the trees are silently thoughtful; the water gurgles in a narrow quiet stream; a shady corner of the forest; the blueness of the sky; reflections of the setting sun; living and breathing sky; a feeling of peaceful silence.
4. Summarizing the collected materials. Presentations by groups.
During the introduction of each group, the other students record in their drafts the expressive means that are named by the speakers, and supplement the answers if they wish.

На мой взгляд, Исаак Левитан – непревзойденный пейзажист. Каждая его картина интересна и значима, пересматривая произведения художника, поражаешься его таланту. Не перестает удивлять зрителя уникальное сочетание простоты и глубины его “Лесистого берега”.
Эта картина близка каждому россиянину, у которого есть душа. Щемит где-то в области сердца, когда видишь до боли знакомую речку, кусочек “своего” пляжа и могучий русский лес. Вековые сосны и ели, словно верные стражи, охраняют покой извилистой реки, отражаясь в ее зеркальной прозрачности.
Природа наполнена тишиной и покоем, все гармонично и естественно. Всматриваешься в картину, и откуда-то появляется уверенность в завтрашнем дне, чувствуешь силу великой России, ее мощь и величие.
Вот так, обычный, на первый взгляд, пейзаж с родными березками на заднем плане, пробуждает в россиянах чувство патриотизма. Левитан своими картинами учит любить уголок, где ты родился, гордиться Россией-матушкой.
Как актуальна картина “Лесистый берег” в XXI веке, сколь велик талант художника. Изобразив могучие деревья и небольшие кустарники, которые плотной стеной заслонили речку, автор показал, что именно так должен защищать свою родину многонациональный российский народ.
Увековечив красоту и гармоничность земли русской, Левитан показал и свое личное отношение к природе. Глядя на картину, понимаешь, что автор любит вечерний пейзаж, с его особо торжественной тишиной и важностью. На заднем плане изображено небо, в отблесках багряного заката. Одновременно, поместив на передний план старые пни с их могучими корнями, он дал понять, что следует чтить и помнить своих предков.
Таким образом, картина “Лесистый берег” оставляет исключительно положительные впечатления. Она позволяет не только насладиться красотой родного края, но и заставляет задуматься о смысле жизни, о судьбе России, о будущем ее такого разного, но единого народа. Хотелось, чтобы как можно больше молодежи увидело этот наполненный великой мудростью пейзаж, чтобы люди в XXI веке поняли и приняли послание Исаака Левитана.
