Z.E. Serebryakova is one of the famous artists of the twentieth century. Her popular work is the picture House of Cards, which was painted in 1919. Description of the painting "House of Cards" by Zinaida Serebryakova
Z.E. Serebryakova is one of the famous artists of the twentieth century. Her popular work is the picture House of Cards, which was painted in 1919. In general image, the picture represents a group of children who are enthusiastic about building a house out of a deck of cards. Admit it, did you do that as a child? Yes, because it’s a fascinating and interesting activity.
In this work the artist wanted to convey all the charm and intrigue of childhood, when children begin to try something themselves, learning something from their peers. But on the other hand, we can see the anxiety and failure on the faces of schoolchildren. Therefore, here we can see the clash of the two ideas that the author wanted to share.
It is interesting that Serebryakova chose to depict this canvas in cold shades, but why would she do that all of a sudden? After all, it was not at all characteristic of her! Some attribute this to the fact that shortly before writing the work, her beloved husband, Boris Anatolievich, passed away. So the woman had to somehow survive this period, just taking all the will in the fist. After all, she had a large family of four children and her old mother. So, the woman passed on all her suffering, as well as unfulfilled dreams, and plans. All of this was replaced overnight by harsh reality. Hence, this is the spirit in which the painting took place.
All we see are children engrossed in folding a house of cards. They are all quite serious about it, so there is tension in their facial expressions, and perseverance that will help them get to the end and achieve success. After all, the most dangerous thing is that a lot of effort will be put in and all for nothing if it breaks so easily.
In this case, the house of cards represents hope and faith in the best, mental well-being, which is lacking. And it can all come crashing down in an instant. Most importantly, this is what happened in Serebryakova’s life.
