Как художник, родившийся в 1568 году, написал картину в 1539?
В Музее Прадо в Мадриде эта картина имеет датировку 1600~1625. Почему на ней написано 1539 – вопрос, видимо, к Яну, но его уже не в живых.

The selection of flowers is varied; roses in shades of pink dominate the arrangement, interspersed with white blooms, touches of blue, and hints of red. The petals appear soft and yielding, rendered with a subtle attention to their texture and form. Leaves, depicted in varying degrees of green, provide a contrasting backdrop for the colorful blossoms.
The light source appears to originate from an unseen point above and slightly to the left, illuminating the flowers unevenly. This creates highlights on some petals while leaving others in shadow, contributing to a sense of depth and volume. The glass vase itself is transparent; its form is discernible through the reflections of the surrounding environment, demonstrating the artist’s skill in depicting reflective surfaces.
Beyond the purely descriptive elements, the painting evokes themes of transience and beauty. Flowers, by their nature, are symbols of fleeting existence, reminding viewers of the ephemeral quality of life. The careful arrangement and detailed rendering suggest a reverence for these natural forms, while the dark background hints at an underlying melancholy or contemplation about mortality. The composition’s intimacy – the close proximity of the flowers to the viewer – encourages a personal connection with the subject matter, inviting reflection on themes of beauty, loss, and the passage of time.
