Есть в этой картине что-то такое постмодернистичное, то, что потом назовут цитатностью и коллажностью. И хулиганский жест тоже присутствует: Не понравился Гран-Жатт? Возьмите голых девушек на его фоне.

To his left, two figures are positioned closer to the wall. One reclines on a pile of towels, his back turned towards the observer, while the other leans against the wall, partially obscured by the central figure and engaged in an activity that is not entirely clear – possibly drying himself or adjusting his posture. On the right side of the composition, another figure bends forward, seemingly occupied with washing or cleansing himself. A final figure stands further back, almost merging into the background, adding depth to the scene.
The artist employed a pointillist technique, using small dots of pure color applied in close proximity to create an optical mixture when viewed from a distance. This method results in a shimmering effect and softens the outlines of the figures, contributing to a sense of atmospheric haze. The palette is dominated by yellows, greens, blues, and reds, creating a warm yet somewhat muted atmosphere.
Beyond the immediate depiction of bathing, the painting seems to explore themes of vulnerability, intimacy, and perhaps even ritualistic cleansing. The direct gaze of the central figure establishes a connection with the viewer, inviting contemplation on the nature of human presence and exposure. The arrangement of the figures suggests a shared experience, yet each individual maintains a degree of separation and privacy within the communal setting.
The architectural elements – the tiled walls and simple furnishings – contribute to the sense of an enclosed space, emphasizing the vulnerability of the subjects. The lack of narrative specificity allows for multiple interpretations; it could be read as a study in human form, a commentary on social customs, or simply a representation of a fleeting moment within a private sphere.
