И за что так превозносят Сезанна? Не понимаю, кто создаёт паблисити таким художникам.

The artist’s technique is characterized by a deliberate fragmentation of form. Facial features are not smoothly blended but rather constructed from distinct planes of color. The nose, for instance, appears as a series of overlapping shapes, while the mouth is suggested through a combination of dark and light tones rather than precise lines. This approach lends the face an almost sculptural quality, emphasizing its mass and volume over realistic representation.
The palette is restrained, primarily consisting of earth tones – browns, grays, greens – with occasional touches of white to highlight certain areas. The application of paint is vigorous; brushstrokes are evident throughout, adding texture and a sense of immediacy to the work. This visible handling of paint contributes to an impression of directness and honesty in the portrayal.
Beyond the surface depiction, there’s a suggestion of introspection conveyed through the subjects gaze. His eyes meet the viewer directly, yet they seem distant, perhaps reflecting a state of contemplation or weariness. The cap, often associated with working-class individuals or artists seeking anonymity, might imply a desire to downplay social status and focus on the act of creation itself.
The blurred background hints at an external world, but it remains secondary to the figure’s presence. This reinforces the sense that the portrait is not merely about capturing likeness, but rather exploring the inner life and character of the individual depicted. The overall effect is one of quiet dignity and a profound engagement with the self.
