In 2021, the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Vakhtangov Theater is celebrated, and on November 10, the A3 Gallery of the Exhibition Halls of Moscow Association opens the exhibition “I, Vakhtangov, Responsible for the Parade”. Part of the exhibition is dedicated to the work of the artist Evgeny Sergeevich Vakhtangov - graphics and paintings from different periods will be presented. The second part of the project is being implemented jointly with the Theater Museum. Bakhrushin and presents posters, posters, sketches of costumes, etc. The exhibition also presents paintings, graphics, sculpture, installations by prominent artists of our time.
The first section of the exhibition project is called Space Compressed to a Point and is dedicated to the work of the artist Evgeny Sergeevich Vakhtangov (1942-2018), academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, grandson of the famous director, where his graphic and painting works of different periods will be presented.
E. S. Vakhtangov is a prominent representative of the new Moscow school of painting. In his work, the main artistic styles and languages of the 20th century were combined. A brilliant master, connoisseur of theatrical art, he developed his own artistic system, considering a piece of painting as a theatrical stage.
Therefore, in his work, the image naturally combines with the text, forming a semantic field that possesses not only a body, but also a voice.
The second part of the exhibition project "I, Vakhtangov Responsible for the Parade" is being implemented jointly with the Theater Museum. Bakhrushin. The official date of birth of the Vakhtangov Theater is 1921, and at the beginning of 1922 it opened with the staging of a play based on the fairy tale by Carlo Gozzi "Princess Turandot". The play was made, according to the director himself, in the genre of “fantastic realism”. This image of festive culture, born of the direction of E. Vakhtangov, represents one of the most relevant movements in modern theatrical culture.
The historical part of the project will include posters, posters, costume sketches, publications from the 1920s and 1930s, photo and video documentation of the performances. The contemporary part will be represented by painting, graphics, sculpture, video works, objects and installations made by artists as a free reading of the drama of Carlo Gozzi.
The cultural program will include lectures, performances, concerts, creative meetings with project participants, excursions around the exhibition, classes with children, and screenings of films on theater scenography.
