In 2019, Evpatoria celebrates the 150th anniversary of the famous city architect Adam Ludwigovich Henry. On the occasion of the memorable date, the Tavrida plein air club organizes the vernissage “The Anniversary of the Architect Adam Henry…” in the contemporary art gallery “HA-RA-SHO!” Of the Golden Key International Theater Theater Center.
The thematic exhibition of paintings is dedicated to the results of the spring plein air. Within its framework, the director of the plein air club “Tavrida” urged the masters of painting to pay attention to the architecture of Yevpatoria from the late XIX - early XX century. For the masters of fine art, Yevpatoria local historian Victoria Strunina and tour guide Natalia Krutikova, an author’s tour was specially developed. Artists followed in the footsteps of the first ever urban architect Adam Henry. The guests were introduced to historical and cultural monuments, special attention was paid to the architectural direction of Art Nouveau - in the buildings of Yevpatoriya this style is luxurious in a wide variety of combinations. As a result of more than twenty well-known artists from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Lugansk, Samara and Simferopol, Kerch and Yalta, a significant part of the works in the open air was devoted to the architecture of the Evpatorian buildings with pseudo-Russian motifs, with elements of synthesized Moorish exoticism, in the style of antikizen modern, Belgian modern, eclecticism etc.
The works of such artists as Peter Bezrukov, Irina Iva, Ekaterina and Daniil Malevannye, Andrei Romasyukov, Elena Rusanova, Evgenia Tarasova, Roman Tretyakov, Pavel Shumov, Eleanor Scheglova and others turned out to be especially interesting. His own house was the fruit of the true inspiration of the architect. Called by the people "Egyptian", it demonstrates in its splendor the harmony of a single architectural and artistic design. Many masters of painting, working outdoors, wrote it. The house of the architect Henry, performed by the honored artists of Ukraine and Crimea, the spouses Nikolai Dudchenko and Elena Molchanova-Dudchenko, as well as Eduard Kulish especially attracts the eye and does not leave indifferent the highest connoisseur of art. Bright colors in the bouquet of talents brought the honored artist of Ukraine and Crimea Ramazan Useinov. In his canvases, he managed to convey the flavor of the old streets of the ancient city and the mood of its inhabitants. Amazingly delicate, felt watercolors by the artist Maria Solovyova also mesmerize.
Note: A quarter of a century, from 1894 to 1919, Adam Henry dedicated the transformation of a typical eastern city into a first-class resort of the Russian Empire. A nobleman by birth, he was born on November 18 (30), 1869, presumably in the provincial city of Kalisz, Kingdom of Poland. A graduate of the Lodz Higher School of Crafts and the Institute of Civil Engineers of Emperor Nicholas I in St. Petersburg, before Evpatoria, Henry worked on the Technical and Construction Committee of the Ministry of the Interior. During the twenty-five years of his service in Yevpatoria, vowels, council members, and city mayors — Nikolai Mamuna, Semyon Duvan, Abram Neiman, Moses Efet, Pavel Ivanov, Boris Sarach — changed. But in his place remained the city architect of Yevpatoria Adam Henry. Thanks to the architect’s projects, boulevards and embankments acquired new features, a fashionable summer residence was built, a city theater, hotels, banks, gymnasiums, cinematographs, apartment buildings, administrative and religious buildings were built. Today, most of them are objects of cultural heritage. In accordance with its urban planning decisions, designed for the long term, Evpatoria developed throughout the twentieth century.
