Irkutsk Art Museum. V.P. Sukacheva will present to the public an anniversary exhibition of the works of Nikolai Tarasik. This year, the artist celebrates his 60th birthday. After graduating from an art institute in Minsk in 1982, Nikolai Tarasik lived in Ust-Ilimsk for almost 30 years, where he was engaged in his own creativity and teaching. Now he constantly lives in Moscow.
The exhibition will feature about 50 paintings and graphic works of various creative periods of the author, starting in the 1990s. For the first time in Irkutsk, new works created this summer in Belarus will be exhibited.
The painting of Nikolai Tarasik is filled with symbols. Moreover, not only objects are metaphorical, but also composition, and image technique, and color. The main color is gold, symbolizing the soft and warm heavenly light, eternity and grace.
“The motives of Nikolai Tarasik, evolving in space and time, form a special kind of“ theatricalized ”space, in which characters who are thoughtful and detached from the bustle of the world act as heroes reminiscent of medieval saints and prophets,” says Tamara Dranitsa, an art historian and researcher of the artist’s work. Greek-Byzantine images are accompanied by the main nostalgic image of Belarus with the magical charm of its legends appearing through the foggy curtain of mystical landscapes, in which the quiet and sad “shadows of forgotten ancestors” come to life.
The exhibition of Nikolai Tarasik will be housed in the Gallery of Siberian Art of the Irkutsk Art Museum at the following address: ul. Karl Marx, 23. The opening will take place on September 29 at 15.00. Entrance to the opening is free. You can see the world of metaphors and symbols until October 30, 2016.
