Konstantin Petrov early declared himself as an original master, with his own imaginative vision and pictorial language. He was born in 1964 in the city of Smolensk. His father is the famous Russian artist Vitaly Natanovich Petrov-Kamchatsky, who created unforgettable works of graphics dedicated to the Far East. The atmosphere of creativity has surrounded Constantine since childhood. He graduated from the famous Moscow secondary art school, in 1991 - Moscow State Art Institute. V.I.Surikova, where his teachers were N.A. Ponomarev, B.A. Uspensky, A.B.Yakushin. Then he completed an internship in Germany, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe, in the studio of the famous artist Herbert Hayek.

In 1992, K. Petrov, at the invitation of the La Garboneria Gallery, was traveling with a personal exhibition to the city of Seville. For several years he has been working in Spain, in several cities of which his personal exhibitions have successfully passed. The result of this creative trip was a large series of graphic sheets (over 40) dedicated to the ancient land of Andalusia. In light, transparent, luminiferous watercolors and more restrained in color pastels, he creates a poetic and mysterious image of this country.

In the mid-1990s, K. Petrov studied at the Creative Graphics Workshop of the Russian Academy of Arts (supervisor A.D. Shmarinov). The European experience gained in Germany and Spain allows him, without breaking away from the traditions of the national art school, to treat his creative work more strictly and selectively. K. Petrov tries himself in various techniques, types, genres of art, preferring easel forms of unique graphics and paintings. The artist’s favorite materials are watercolor and pastel, in which he feels most relaxed, easy and free. He peculiarly and vividly declares himself in a landscape, still life and portrait, as evidenced by psychological, acute works in this genre, such as “Portrait of a Father”, “Portrait of Hieromonk Christopher”, “Nikolai”, “Portrait of Katya Muratova”, “Portrait Alexandra ”and others. For each image, he seeks his own plastic solution, his own style.

The artist travels around the country a lot, travels abroad, enriching his work with new, sometimes unexpected impressions, discoveries, images. His art takes on a special style, which is manifested in lightness, a certain emotional sincerity, which is felt both in landscapes and in genre motifs of recent years. K. Petrov’s watercolors have a certain romantic phantom, despite the recognition of the specific places where they were painted. The work in this technique is characterized by a special transparency with a touch of sphumatto, which gives them amazing emotional intonation and musicality.

The exhibition allows you to see the many-sided, complex world of images created by the master, to pay attention not to some of the most capacious in figurative dramaturgy, compositional sharpness, emotional and coloristic integrity and spirituality of the work of K. Petrov. These are watercolor suites and pastels from the “Spain” series, landscape motifs of Moscow, Bratislava, Pereslavl-Zalessky (“Boats on the Crossroads”), Greece, Derbent, etc.

From 1999 to the present, K. Petrov has been vice president of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia. He is a teacher at the Moscow State Art Institute named after V.I.Surikov and MVHPA them. S.G. Stroganova.
