In the plots of the artist’s paintings (“Bathing in Time”, “Ancestress of Eve”, “Birth of Aphrodite”, “Minotaur”) you can find echoes of many world myths, legends, and legends. This is the author’s perception of that mysterious world that existed in the past. The artist appears as an interpreter of the heritage of world culture, passed "through himself." Dmitry Sandzhiev was born in 1949 in Novosibirsk. He graduated from the Yaroslavl Art College, in 1981 - MGHI im. V.I.Surikova, then Creative workshops of the USSR Academy of Arts under the direction of O.G. Vereisky. Six sheets from his thesis “The Shepherd’s Widow” were acquired by the State Tretyakov Gallery, the remaining three were included in the collection of the famous company “Faber-Kastel” (Germany), which awarded the author with a special prize. Through the specific fate of the Kalmyk woman, the fate of an entire nation with a special way of life and traditions can be traced. In plastically expressive sheets, each specific plot acquires the character of a deep generalization, of the poeticized “picture-memory”.

Sandzhiev’s grandiose art project “Ancient Civilizations”, marked by deep associativity of images, conceptualizes the path of the last millennia passed by mankind.

D. Sandzhiev is a master endowed with a rare ability to see in the ordinary - supernatural, in the festive - incredible, in real - fantastic. Masterfully executed paintings and graphic works of the author allow you to take a fresh look at the most ordinary situations of everyday life. In 2002, the picturesque polyptych “Broken Time”, dedicated to the anniversary of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, was presented to the US Congress.

In 2009, the artist donated 35 works as a gift to the city of Kemerovo and was awarded the medal “For Faith and Good” by the Governor of the Kemerovo Region for active charitable and social activities.

The permanent exhibition of the Central Chess Palace in City Chess (Kalmykia) and the Art Museum of the Republic contain 4 paintings and more than 20 graphic sheets donated by D. Sandzhiev. In 2009, he was awarded the medal “Forever Together” in memory of the 400th anniversary of the entry of the Kalmyk people into the Russian state.
