Traditions of Urasinka Tea School

“Urasenke” is the name of a family, a house located in Kyoto, whose members have been professionally engaged in the art of Tea for 15 generations. The head of the house (Oiemoto) is the leader of the community of people practicing Tea. In total, in Japan and abroad, there are several hundred thousand people passionate about this culture.

The Urasenki school exists as a hierarchical system. The head of the organization and the spiritual leader of all people practicing Tea is the 16th-generation Grand Master Sen Genshitsu Zabosai Iemoto, who is also the director of the Tea Way School and the head of the tea culture research center.
