The history of the Studio is inextricably linked with the Optina Pustyn monastery. Namely, with the artist, resident of the monastery, Abbot Hilarion (Ermolaev). Before becoming a monk, Father Hilarion graduated from the Surikov Institute in Moscow and was a talented muralist. Hegumen Hilarion was one of the founders of the icon-painting workshop in Optina Pustyn, participated in the painting of the monastery’s churches, and people came to him to learn the rare technique of fresco. He spiritually nurtured artists and icon painters, became the favorite confessor of many people, and dreamed of creating an art school for children in Kozelsk. After the death of Abbot Hilarion, his spiritual children made his dream come true. This is how Art Workshops appeared in Kozelsk - Studio named after. Abbot Hilarion.
