An educational, interactive, fascinating project in the framework of the XXI international exhibition Art Perm-2019 for all who love art.

The project “Chemistry of Painting” will tell about why artists have been “chemists” throughout history - from primitive times to the present, what school paints and paints of an artist consist of, why a restorer needs chemistry. The aim of the project is to talk about the impossibility of the existence of art without science using the example of painting technique, the knowledge and possession of which is mandatory for every artist.

At the exhibition you will see samples of pigments and minerals (azurite, malachite, etc.) from which paint is made, get acquainted with the chemical compositions for painting and restoration, as well as with the working tools of the artist and the restorer.

The project consists of two parts: exhibition and educational. The main part of the exposition is tablets with texts and illustrations that tell us the history of painting and paints, as well as what connects the artist and the scientist.

The educational part involves the holding of creative events and master classes.

This is a joint educational project of the Perm State Art Gallery, one of the largest regional art museums in Russia, and the Metafrax Public Joint Stock Company, one of the fastest growing chemical enterprises in modern Russia.
