At the anniversary exhibition, which opens at the Khazine NHC on September 21, about fifty paintings and works in the spirit of conceptual art will be presented.
The style of Khamza Sharipov is characterized by extreme minimalism, the expressive simplicity of artistic means, the symbolism of images. Deeply original, national, firmly based on folk art traditions (embroidery, patterned weaving, namazlika art), it is associated with eastern Sino-Japanese art and West European modernism of the early twentieth century. The idea of the unity of the world, the unity of opposites, yin-yang, the idea of the connection of times is revealed by Khamza Sharipov on the basis of a pantheistic worldview.
A characteristic feature of Khamza Sharipov’s paintings is their philosophical content, expressed in a laconic form, relying on the symbolism of ancient archetypal images and on the traditions of the art of the folk primitive. Khamza has his own principles of plastic solution of the theme: a flat background, a limited number of images, a minimum of details, the use of traditional folk symbols, such as a white wolf, crescent, minaret, lake, sun, horse, wheel, flowers. The figures of people in the paintings are given conditionally, schematically. The paintings of H. Sharipov, simple and unsophisticated at first glance, represent a complex sign system. Its symbolic meaning, including many deep layers, is revealed to the viewer gradually, through his personal associative representations and knowledge of national and world culture. The artist includes verbal texts in the image, most often taken from folk songs. In combination with picturesque images, they create a special lyrical mood, the Tatar mine. Subtle nuances, midtones, hidden hints, poise and harmony distinguish the work of the artist Khamza Sharipov.
“The painting of Khamza Sharipov attracts with its emotionality, rigorous accuracy and at the same time the unexpectedness of the compositions… The artist’s works resemble melodies of folk songs, where there is light sorrow, there is no anguish, no offensive mockery, but a subtle irony is felt” (art critic R. R. Sultanova)
The exhibition runs until October 22, 2017.
