Gallery “Here on the Taganka” of the Exhibition Halls of Moscow Association together with the Fine Art Gallery have the honor to invite you to Dmitry Gorbunov’s exhibition Groundhog Night.
This is a picturesque project, which is a story in which the main narrator is the neon light of Groundhog Night Club. Artificial lights of a cold spectrum exist in the paradigm of human feelings and hopes, flickering in the darkness of their spiritual emptiness. The fluorescent color lures the heroes into the process of endless fermentation of night life and dissolves in his untimely superspace, similar to the world of the “Black Wigwam” by David Lynch.
Using the traditions of the old masters of Italian and Dutch figurative painting of the XVI-XVII centuries, such as Pietro Della Francesca, Rembrandt Harmenszoon Van Rijn or Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, the artist endows the social themes with artistic meaning and leads the viewer away from empathy with the characters.
This exhibition is the desire of Dmitry Gorbunov to draw a parallel between the necessary artistic role in the modern world and children’s perception, capable of fascinating and living in a romantic world of illusions, where only the intrigue of light and shadow reigns, leaving a serene time under the protection of ignorance.
Groundhog Night is the first solo exhibition of the young artist Dmitry Gorbunov in Russia. His biography is unusual for Russian artists who first gain fame in their homeland, and then go to conquer the world. Dmitry began his exhibition activities in 2013 in Europe. For example, exhibitions in London in galleries - C99 Art Project Gallery, SHOP Gallery & Bar, in 2014 - Konst Gallery, Helsinki, in 2015 - the Nobel Gallery, Oslo; International Art Exhibition "Nord Art", Kunstwerk Carlshuette, Budelsdorf, Germany. In 2016, Dmitry Gorbunov took part in the 5th Moscow International Biennale for Young Art, Moscow.
