Many lovers of fine art are familiar with the work of Irkutsk artists, but what do the creators themselves look like, in what atmosphere do they create their works, how do they portray themselves and how do their fellow artists see them? For the first time, the Irkutsk Art Museum combines works from its collection and artists’ workshops under one theme - "The Master and the Workshop."

The exposition combined works in the genre of portrait and self-portrait, as well as the interior of creative workshops. The exhibition, limited by a specific topic, allows you to delve into the creative process, feel the author’s personality, reflect on the nature of creativity, the time in which the artist lives, the role of the creator and his relationship with the outside world. The exhibition allows you to track changes in the nature of the portrait (and self-portrait as a variety of this genre) in time, as it covers a long period - from the 20s of the XX century to the present.

The exhibition is located in two departments of the museum. In the Main Building (5 Lenin St.), the audience is presented with paintings by the capital’s masters of the twentieth century from the museum’s funds, which have become classics of Soviet art. In the Gallery of Siberian Art (23 Karl Marx St.), Irkutsk residents will see works by fellow countrymen from the collection of the Irkutsk Art Museum and from the workshops of the Union of Artists. The exposition, located on two floors of the gallery of Siberian art, contains more than 200 works of painting, graphic art, sculpture and decorative and applied art. Here you can see the work of more than 100 artists of the Irkutsk region.
