On May 29, 2015, an exhibition of works by the national artist of the USSR and the Russian Federation, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador ZK Tsereteli “I was born a gardener” will be opened in the North Caucasus branch of the State Museum of the East. The exposition was about 70 works - paintings, colorful enamels, sculpture.
Strength of character and amazing energy, the boldness of the experimenter and an unexpected artistic look make up the portrait of Zurab Tsereteli - a master who was able to combine literally all kinds, genres, and fine art techniques with his creative searches. His rare love of life, admiration for the beauty of man, nature, the highest manifestations of the human soul was embodied in works filled with energy and passion, permeated by the awareness of the unity of the world, the joy of life. The exhibition in Maykop is a convincing proof of this. Colorful paintings, colored voluminous enamels, expressive sculptural images presented on display can be compared with a peculiar song of life in its most diverse manifestations. Among the works of Z. Tsereteli are compositional portraits, still beloved by the author, still lifes depicting flowers, works of small plastic from the series “Citizens”, and the sculptural composition “Pirosmani and Russo”.
Like every new master’s exhibition, the Maykop exhibit is not just a collection of works related to a particular topic. Each drawing by Z.K. Tsereteli, each painting is a kind of galaxy created by the artist’s bold imagination. It is embodied in specific characters, subordinated to the world of countless colors and their various shades, revealing to the viewer a whole universe of emotions and experiences of the creator. A man of the world, an artist in whose works European classics and Oriental art are surprisingly synthesized, Z. Tsereteli remains a mystery in each of his works, which the viewer will have to solve.
The exhibition runs until July 8, 2015.
