The new two-part solo exhibition by Jan Ginzburg “The Room of Genius. Aphorisms of Joseph Ginzburg ”will unite two installations on two floors of the TUS gallery. In the project, the artist explores the boundaries between idealistic ideas about how the life of the creator should be arranged and the bureaucratic prose of everyday life. The idea of the room was originally proposed by a homeless artist, philosopher, anarchist, Joseph Ginzburg (1938-2015) as a gift to Jan Ginzburg "to reveal the superpowers of mankind." The installation presents 144 portraits of “geniuses”, as well as a file cabinet for 62 personalities of Soviet culture with whom Joseph Ginzburg was in contact. The halls of the first floor are an original memorial exposition, collected from objects that were stored in a specialized warehouse (box) of Joseph Ginzburg during their lifetime. Some of them are authentic objects, some are restored by Jan as plastic objects. The exhibition is the second part (after the exposition of the Mechanical Beetle) of a series devoted to the study of the life of Joseph Ginzburg and the formation of him as a person.

Jan Ginzburg - Russian artist, author of installations. He graduated from the Institute of Contemporary Art. The artistic practice of Jan Ginzburg, which is a non-canonical example of working with memory in Russian contemporary art, belongs to the discourse of archival impulse, key for the international aesthetic context of recent years. Building a dialogue with a particular artist or analyzing a particular artistic phenomenon — most often Ginzburg’s attention is focused on the history of art or aesthetic theories — the author outlines the premises and traces of the processes of artistic production.
Arseny Zhilyaev is an artist, lives in Moscow and Venice. In his projects he refers to the heritage of Soviet museology, as well as the interpretation of the museum in the philosophy of Russian cosmism. Zhilyaev’s works were shown at the Biennale in Gwangju, Liverpool, Lyon and the Ljubljana Triennial, as well as at exhibitions at the Pompidou Center in Paris; de Appel, Amsterdam; HKW, Berlin, Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary, Vienna, the Kadist Foundations, Paris, San Francisco and Vac, Moscow and Venice, etc. The artist is the winner of Russian prizes in the field of contemporary art and the nominee for the international Visible Award in 2013.
