May 19, 2015 at 16.00 the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Russian Academy of Arts at the address: st. Prechistenka, 21 present an exhibition of paintings and drawings “Remembering the Past…” by the largest painter, people’s artist of the USSR, academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, laureate of the USSR State Prize and the International Prize named after M.I.Sholokhov, Honorary Citizen of Pskov, Peter Pavlovich Ossovsky, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory and the 90th anniversary of the author.
It is no exaggeration to say that the artist P.P. Ossovsky devoted his whole life to the creation of one large-scale epic narrative dedicated to significant dates in the history of Russia, its heroic and tragic pages, Russian people and his native land, which he acquired for himself in the ancient Pskov region with its pristine beauty and stern epic grandeur, amazing nature and courageous people. 70 years ago, a lot of people of our country fell on a difficult civilian mission to pass the roads of World War II, win the Victory and make an invaluable contribution to the creation of culture and art of the second half of the 20th century.
According to the author, a generation of artists of the “sixties” who survived the war enriched the treasury of spiritual values with their unique creations and left future generations examples of selfless service of Great Russia and its national culture. For P.P. Ossovsky, the eternal themes of art have been and remain: Homeland and the land on which a person lives and works, love, motherhood, family, the bitterness of loss and the birth of a new life, the difficulties and will that overcomes them. Convincing evidence of this is the work presented at the exhibition: the polyptychs “The History of the Red Power”, “Thunderstorms of the Bygone Century”, “Islands of the Pskov Lake”, “Mothers”, “Passion by Faith”, “Holy Monastery of Father Nicholas” and many others. The exposition, which includes more than 200 paintings and graphic works, also includes works created as a result of foreign creative trips to Cuba, Mexico, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy.
In recent years, despite his venerable age, the artist created murals from the Izborsk Chamber on the theme “Orthodox Faith” and “Russian Literature”, and also donated 15 of his works to the Yegoryevsky Museum of History and Art.
The works of P.P. Ossovsky are in the collections of the largest museums in Russia, as well as in domestic and foreign private collections.
The exhibition runs until June 7th.
