Concept
Anderson was not only an artist, photographer, but also one of the Latvian shooters. It was they who stood at the origins of the Red Army, served in the personal guard of Lenin, took an active part in the Civil War (the Reds), and in the 1930s many of them, including Anderson, were shot at the Butovo training ground or repressed.
Photos are presented in the context of historical events - from tsarist Russia and the revolution to Stalinist tyranny and occupation of the Baltic republics.
Voldemar Anderson’s exhibition of photographs is framed by elements that immerse the viewer in the era: documents, events infographics, etc., they show the daily life of different parts of the USSR - from the routine of Latvian villages and Uzbek villages to the asphalting of the Garden Ring in Moscow.
