From April 1 to May 22, 2021, a personal exhibition of Vladimir Khakho "To Madagascar in Search of the Sun" will be held in the ABRAMOVA GALLERY space.
Each journey reveals something new, different from the reality in which we are on a daily basis. This is a deliberate search that can change the worldview and set a new vector in creativity. In the case of the artist Vladimir Khakho, the vector of searches was diverted far from the ordinary St. Petersburg landscape with gloomy courtyards-wells and complex geometry of ends and facades, which is usual for his works. The author reinterprets the island aesthetics by embarking on a long trip to Madagascar. For Haho, it becomes a kind of research expedition, where in a new area it is necessary to capture the peculiarities of the way of life of the locals and study their faces and plasticity, which the modernists of the turn of the XIX-XX centuries aspired to at one time. According to the artist himself, this trip allowed him to get away from the cold depressive scale of St. Petersburg towards color and light, dramatically changing the palette.
“The contrast between St. Petersburg and Madagascar is very strong, where it was possible to quench the thirst for light, color and warmth, to free oneself from the already frozen northern depressive reality that had accumulated in my heart. A special color saturation, new forms, heat, a different sky, even the Moon walks there along some other route unknown to us. Zebu that come across here and there, since both the city and the village are closely intertwined, mysterious dark-skinned faces, a road that goes beyond the horizon in the middle of endless space, a blazing sky at sunset and again heat streaming through the veins and red earth underfoot, ”shares his impression Vladimir Khakho. The artistic result of the trip will be presented at an exhibition in the Abramova Gallery in 20 canvases.
