Vitaly Kopachev formulated his visual language quite early - almost immediately after his professional appearance “in public”. He managed to make him absolutely recognizable, his figurative system has been supported and developed for almost thirty years now.
Events of the artist’s internal biography are not always a continuation or a direct consequence of external events, but in the case of Kopachev, some connection can be seen. I would venture to suggest that his rare inner conviction, even “obstinacy”, is in some way connected with the leadership of the A3 gallery, which is as long as his work. Starting his work with projects unprecedented in courage for his (and already for our) time projects, Vitaly came across not only “trends”, but rather a hurricane of strategies, opinions, ego of both illustrious and developing authors. In this situation, the personal art system is constantly overloaded, tested for strength - is it possible to combine the breadth of views, the adoption of opposing points of view in public activities and the rigor of choice in personal creativity? Kopachev’s example answers in the affirmative, even if we accept this as an exception to the rule. However, the delimitation, concentration and crystallization of personal artistic experience implies the task of the next level of complexity - this is a test of itself; a constant test of the ability to change, the willingness to risk the best and most successful.
However, it seems that Vitaly sees this not so much a challenge as new opportunities. In the project “Non-involvement”, which became a kind of manifesto, he finally formulated his main priorities in art, where the concept of “independence” is basic. Actually, this is the key that opens up Kopachev’s spaces: to understand his work, it is important to take into account that everything that is necessary for their feeling and reading is inside them. Their independence is not in tightness, but in integrity, fullness. Their perception does not require the involvement of additional, external associations or a verbal “guide to viewing” - they need to be seen as they are, for this they are absolutely open.
