The collection of paintings for the exhibition "Beautiful Islands", which will be presented in the exhibition hall of the Volga branch of the Academy of Arts on Lavrushinsky 15, was created for 11 years.
The painter Vasily Vdovin conceived the cycle of seascapes in 2004, when he arrived with a sketchbook on the island of Sardinia, and for several weeks selflessly wrote sketches inspired by the beauty of the Mediterranean. A year later, fate threw the artist to the famous Corsica, and this island became Vasily’s favorite place. The artist spent 5 open airs there, involving his students and friends in this amazing land. Inspired by his first successful trips, the artist Vdovin expanded the geography of his open airs: the Peloponnese and Crete, the islands of Kos, Elba… the tiny islands of St. Margarita and St. Honore and the magical Venice. But the most wonderful adventure, according to the artist himself, is the “discovery” of Crimea.
In the fall of 2014, Vasily Vdovin, on the emotional wave of the return of Crimea to Russia, reached the most beautiful place in the Crimea, Fiolent, and painted there a magnificent series of watercolors and canvases called “I dreamed about Crimea”. Already at the end of 2014, Vasily found like-minded people. And in the beginning of 2015, the group of artists “New Wanderers” held several exhibitions “Crimean stories”, namely: in the Central House of Architects, the Ministry of Culture of Russia and the Public Chamber of Russia.
The watercolors of the artist Vasily Vdovin are accurate and light, but oil paintings are filled with emotional enthusiasm and courage of a palette knife technique. The artist generously shares his skills with his students. Vasily organized annual private open airs on the island of Corsica and in Venice on the island of Lido.
