On June 6, in the main building of the Irkutsk Art Museum (Lenin St., 5), the exhibition “The Source of Creation in the Artist” opens, dedicated to the 220th anniversary of Alexander Pushkin. The exposition presents rare books, as well as exhibits from the graphics fund of the museum named after V.P. Sukachev, in particular graphic sheets by Nikolai Vasilyevich Kuzmin - one of the main illustrators of Pushkin’s works in the 20th century.
Irkutsk citizens and guests of the city are given the opportunity to see the works of the great Russian poet through the prism of perception of the artist, illustrating the books of the classic. The true decoration of the exhibition is a collection of genuine graphic works by Nikolai Kuzmin. The exhibition presents mainly illustrations for "Eugene Onegin", created from 1931 to 1946. - color watercolors to the main storylines, as well as ink drawings. Graphic sheets from the collection of the famous Moscow collector Valeryan Vadimovich Velichko were donated to the Irkutsk Art Museum in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
The exhibition is complemented by especially valuable copies of books from the rare collection of the museum’s library, in which you can see illustrations for the Pushkin works of authorship by A.N. Benoit, I.Ya. Bilibina, V.N. Kurdyumova, V.A. Favorsky, L.S. Khizhinsky, T.A. Mavrina, V.A. Serov and other artists. So, for the first time, Pushkin’s rare edition of “Tales of Tsar Saltan” (1913), printed in the I.D. Sytin in the technique of chromolithography; the anniversary edition of the poem "Poltava" (1949), published on the 240th anniversary of the Battle of Poltava, as well as "The Tale of the late Ivan Petrovich Belkin" (1950) with illustrations made by zincography.
