In the main exposition of the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts (104 Lenin St.), from December 8 at 16-00 an exhibition opens as part of the exhibition project “We Remember Your Names. Creativity of the oldest artists of the Kaluga Territory ”: N.N. Yaskov. Painting.
Nikifor Nikolaevich Yaskov (1898-1994) is a remarkable artist, one of a number of significant, but little-known masters of Russian provincial painting of the 20th century. He was born in the village of Shtopki, Klimovsky district, Bryansk province. He received his art education in the first post-revolutionary years. At first he studied in Kiev, at the Ukrainian Academy of Arts, but he soon moved to Petrograd, became a student of VKhUTEIN (1923-1926), studied in the workshops of professors V. E. Savinsky and A. A. Rylov. For some time at the end of VKhUTEIN, Yaskov was a school drawing teacher. But from the beginning of the 1930s, he became a teacher and head of the educational department of the Oryol Art School. And at the same time, and one of the organizers of the Oryol regional branch of the Union of Soviet artists. In 1940, he unexpectedly left for Sverdlovsk, but not for long: shortly after the outbreak of World War II, he was drafted into the army. And in 1945, after demobilization, Yaskov was already returning to Oryol, working in a local partnership of artists. And then he moved to Yelets, where by that time the Oryol Art College, which had become native to him, had been transferred. And again he becomes the head of his training unit.
It is noteworthy that the fate of this wonderful school was intertwined with the fate of Kaluga art: among the masters who made up the core of the community of artists of Kaluga there are several of its graduates at once. True, only two of them studied in Yelets at a time when Yaskov was one of the leaders of the school: People’s Artist of Russia V. M. Belov and theater artist, member of the Union of Russian Writers I. M. Kalinin (1924-2015). But we must remember that Yaskov put a lot of effort into turning the art school into one of the best educational art institutions in Russia. And therefore, to some extent, it is possible to consider his masters of those Kaluga painting masters who were educated in Yelets after Yaskov left him. And this is P. P. Kozmin (1924-1998), and Yu. A. Epishin (1937-2007), and Z. I. Timofeev (1933-2007), and A. F. Timofeev (1938-2007). Brilliant colorists, true connoisseurs of art craft.
In 1953, Yaskov moved to Kaluga. Being already a man of advanced years, he eschews any social activities, less and less participates in exhibitions. But on the other hand, he devoted himself fully to artistic creation, painting landscapes, still lifes, and less often portraits. This exposition, oddly enough, is the first solo exhibition of works by Yaskov. Moreover, even now, two decades after the death of this master, his legacy is not only not studied, but also insufficiently systematized. Unfortunately, the artist himself did not date his works - and sometimes it is very difficult to even approximately establish the time and place of creation of his sketches and paintings. It is obvious only that the works presented at the exhibition arose over several decades and mainly in Yelets and Kaluga. It is also obvious that all these works are wonderful examples of beautiful painting, originally Russian, sophisticated lyrical, permeated with contagious melodies and sincere emotions.
For visitors, the exhibition will run from December 8, 2015 to December 27, 2015.
